The 35th anniversary of the Edith Stein Society and the 30th anniversary of the Edith Stein House
The year 2025 has been declared a Jubilee Year by the Catholic Church.
By decree of Archbishop Józef Kupny, the Edith Stein House has become a SIGN OF HOPE. Pilgrims of hope, following various routes throughout the archdiocese, can also come to our House to learn about the history of this place, but above all to learn about the legacy of Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Edith Stein.
However, 2025 is also our private Jubilee Year of the Edith Stein Society, as on 19 December 1989, the Society was registered in court (file reference: I Ns Rej.Dt 19/89), which means that it has now been 35 years since it officially began operating after registration. But this Jubilee Year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Society’s acquisition of the building at 38 Nowowiejska Street, which is the Society’s headquarters and which for so many years has been and continues to be open to anyone who wants to learn about the history of the Stein family.
We are very happy that the Society’s anniversaries, which are so important to us, coincide with the Jubilee Year in the Church. This allows us to remind everyone that this House has always been a SIGN OF HOPE since the beginning of the Society’s history, as it has brought together people from all over the world, of different nationalities, religions and cultures. It has been a place of broad dialogue, but also of behind-the-scenes conversations, a place of reflection and prayer, but also of clashing views and ideas. However, it has always been and remains a place for seeking what unites us and timeless values that endure forever, such as faith, hope and love.
We began celebrating our private Jubilee Year on 19 January 2025 at a joint meeting, but we also want the whole of 2025 to be a time of gratitude for the 35 years of the Society and the 30 years since we acquired the House. Above all, we want to thank God, but also remember all the living and deceased members of the Society whose love for Edith Stein has kept this work going for so many years, keeping it alive, developing it and continuing to surprise us with its beauty and openness.
Pope Francis’ Jubilee Prayer
Father, who art in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your Son Jesus Christ, our Brother, and the flame of love poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, awaken in us the blessed hope of the coming of your Kingdom.
May Your grace transform us into diligent sowers of the seeds of the Gospel, which will be the leaven of humanity and the cosmos, as we confidently await the new heaven and the new earth, when the powers of evil will be defeated and Your glory will be revealed for ever and ever.
May the grace of the Jubilee revive in us, Pilgrims of Hope, the desire for heavenly goods and spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. To You, God, blessed forever, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen
Danuta Nowak President of the Edith Stein Society
